Edmonton, Alberta – Backwoods Energy Services (Backwoods), a leading provider of construction services and one of the largest Indigenous-owned businesses in Alberta, will be relocating their matting division to a larger new facility in the upcoming months.

Backwoods Matting Services is moving their matting production to Nisku, Alberta. The new facility is 32000 square feet on 8.5 acres, which will allow broad flexibility to increase production, facilitate new lines of access products, and store and maintain their equipment effectively. The new facility is expected to be fully operational by the first week in July.

“We are pleased to bring Backwoods into the Leduc-Nisku corridor. We came here due to the low tax rates, great infrastructure, and access to transportation hubs. We look forward to growing our business here for years to come,” says Mike Heck, CEO of Backwoods Energy Services.

“On behalf of Leduc County, it’s my pleasure to welcome Backwoods Matting Services to Nisku,” says Leduc County Mayor Tanni Doblanko. “We are so glad Backwoods has chosen the Nisku Business Park for their business. Our location is unmatched in the region – we are close to air, rail and major road transportation networks and our business-friendly processes and low tax rates have helped us attract new and diverse businesses, which now includes Backwoods Matting Services.”
