Edmonton, Alberta – Backwoods Energy Services (Backwoods), a leading provider of construction services and one of the largest Indigenous-owned businesses in Alberta, has received the Best Innovation in Safety Practices Award.

Trans Mountain is committed to providing a safe and productive workplace for both their employees and contractors. To recognize their top-performing operations contractors who prioritized a commitment to safety, they launched the Trans Mountain Operational Safety Recognition program and recently held an awards banquet for contractors in Calgary, Alberta.

Backwoods received the Best Innovation in Safety Practices Award for implementing a cloud-based e-compliance safety system in its workforce and for making key enhancements to reduce incidents through its Safe Driving and Subcontractor Management programs.

“Over the past three years, our team has collaborated with our operations teams from the field level to leadership to build and implement Health and Safety Systems which provides practical tools for our front-line workers and supervisors,” says Chelsea Stepien, Director of HSE at Backwoods Energy Services.  “The successful implementation and the positive outcomes we have experienced from this, has been driven by the relentless commitment from our field operations to integrate safety into everything that they do”.
